Architectural Armour Ltd are now able to offer Fire Resistant Glass and fire rated products as part of their product range. Whether it be the supply of the glass only or the supply of fire rated windows/door systems, Architectural Armour are able to cater customers varying needs.
What is Fire Rated Glass? There are different types of Fire Rated Glass available on the market and Architectural Armour are able to offer solutions for integrity only applications. Integrity refers to the protection against the flames of a fire, hot gases and smoke. It is referred to as ‘E’. The glass acts as a barrier protecting those who may stand behind it.
The two other types of fire-resistant glass are; EI; Integrity and Insulation. Protection against flames but also the heat that emits from the flames. It creates an additional thermal insulation, preventing the heat emitted from damaging the glass causing it to fail. EW stands for integrity and radiation, providing a barrier against fire, hot gases and smoke, assuring a reduced passage of thermal radiation.
The glass is tested in a certified frame and undergoes exposure to a fire. It is closely monitored and assessed in accordance with BS 476 Part 22, BS 1364-1 and BS 1634-1.
Architectural Armour offer E30 and E60 solutions. ’30’ refers to the amount of minutes the glass can withstand against fire. Therefore we have 30 and 60 minute solutions to meet your requirements. The glass is a modified toughened fire glass, meaning it is toughened on a different heat cycle to standard toughened glass giving the glass a characteristic to protect against fire. E30 can be framed into timber or steel and E60 into steel only. We can also offer the relevant framework for the glass to be glazed in to, to customer specifications.
The standard thickness is 6mm, however it can be laminated to achieve thicker constructions e.g. 11.5mm or 13.5mm (multi-directional). In addition the fire rated glass can be laminated to our existing Security Rated products to give an added trait of fire protection. Protect yourself against bullets and the risk of a fire when considering your security requirements, whether it be No Spall or Spall Allowed constructions. Spall Allowed which are all glass constructions can be offered with multi-directional fire protection; two pieces of fire rated glass are laminated to the construction, the first and last layer enabling protection from both sides.
All of our products can also be ordered as double glazed units to customer specifications.
The maximum sizes are determined by the products Certifire Document, CF628, and are also influenced by the application and framing.
